Vitamin D is often referred to as the sunshine vitamin because it is produced in the skin when exposed to sunlight. During the winter months, the sun sits too low in the sky for the body to synthesise vitamin D, and because dietary sources are limited, Public Health England recommends vitamin D supplementation to support bone and muscle health.

Most vitamin D3 supplements are derived from lanolin in sheep’s wool, but Viridian Vitamin D3 provides a fully vegan alternative sourced from lichen. This plant‑based D3 has been clinically studied at the University of Surrey and shown to effectively raise blood serum vitamin D levels.
